Faithful Families: Encouraging Families to Study the Bible Together
The Education Committee at the Schaumburg Church of Christ met in January to discuss the new direction that it wanted to take and to establish a clear set of goals for the 2012 year. The primary goal that the committee wished to focus on was encouraging its members to study together outside of its organized Bible classes. To emphasize that fact, the 2012 program was entitled “Faithful Families”.
The committee asked what can the church do to help encourage families to study together? While the daily study Periods of the Old Testament has led some to begin a regular routine of home Bible study who did not before, the questions in the workbook are not suitable for younger children. A cohesive curriculum where the adult class as well as the children’s classes all follow the same general subject but with age-appropriate material was adopted to encourage Biblical discussion outside of the church building. The new curriculum was started on the first Sunday in March, which marked the beginning of the second quarter. The book of Acts was chosen as the focus for the quarter.

Deaver-Vick Debate in Indianapolis
A four-night debate on October 24-27 at 7p.m. (EST) hosted by the Shelbyville Road Church of Christ will be free to watch online at the following link: Live Stream.
The following information was taken from Biblical Notes web site:
A public, four night debate will take place October 24-27, 2011 in Indianapolis, Indiana between Mac Deaver and Ben F. Vick, Jr., beginning at 7:00 p.m. (Eastern) each evening. The debate is set to occur at the building of the Shelbyville Road church of Christ (4915 Shelbyville Road, Indianapolis, IN 46237).
Ben Vick is a graduate of Georgia Christian School (1970), Harding College (1974), and the Memphis School of Preaching (1976). He has worked with churches in Arkansas and Indiana, and also taught at the Jefferson Christian Academy in Birmingham, Alabama. Since 1980, he has preached for the Shelbyville Road church of Christ in Indianapolis, where he also serves as an elder.
Mac Deaver graduated from Fort Worth Christian Academy in 1965, going on to receive an A.A. degree in Bible from Fort Worth Christian College; a diploma from Brown Trail School of Preaching; a B.A. degree in Bible from Oklahoma Christian College; an M.A. degree in Philosophy of Religion and Christian Doctrine from Harding Graduate School of Religion; a Ph.D. in Christian Doctrine and Apologetics from Tennessee Bible College. He has worked with churches in Texas, Tennessee, Alabama, and Oklahoma. In addition, he has taught on the faculties of the Brown Trail Preacher Training School, Tennessee Bible College, and the Southwest School of Bible Studies. Currently, he preaches for the church of Christ in Sheffield, Texas, where he also serves as an elder.
The proposition for October 24-25 is: “The Scriptures teach that Holy Spirit baptism has ceased and is no longer in the church today.” Ben Vick will affirm. Mac Deaver will deny.
The proposition for October 26-27 is: “The Scriptures teach that when a person becomes a Christian he is baptized in water and in the Holy Spirit.” Mac Deaver will affirm. Ben Vick will deny.
Many, unable to attend in person, are already planning to watch the event live online at this Link.
Weylan Deaver will be serving as Mac Deaver’s moderator. Follow @WDeaver on Twitter for pics and updates from Indianapolis (or, see the Twitter updates on his blog).
The discussion should be most interesting, revealing, and even historic, since—at least to this writer’s knowledge—there has never been a public debate between two preachers in the church of Christ on this topic. Let us pray for the truth to shine and God to be glorified.

Viewing of the facilities will be before and after the service. Wedding Policy
The Schaumburg Church of Christ receives many inquiries about the use of our church building for wedding ceremonies by those who are non-members. Our building is available to non-members if certain conditions are met. Due to our building and liability insurance, any activity at the building must be a “church” activity; i.e., it must be a function conducted by a member of the Schaumburg Church. For this reason we do not allow our building or grounds to be used or rented by outside groups and organizations. The only exception is that the facility is used as a polling precinct. The County of Cook provides its own insurance coverage. The ceremony must be conducted by one of our members. Because of the seriousness of marriage to the couple who enters into its union, upon their families and upon society at large, couples agree to fourteen weeks of premarital counseling prior to the ceremony. Counseling sessions must be completed not less than one month before the happy event. Thus counseling needs to begin not less than ten months before the ceremony.

'Debate on Water Baptism' Video PodCast
The Deaver-Hoffman Debate was organized around the fundamental question "Is water baptism an essential component to salvation?" The debate originally took place on April 3-6, 2006, at Villa Oliva Country Club in Bartlett, Illinois. Although the event was videotaped, only the audio portion of the debate was hosted on the church web site due to server restrictions. A DVD copy was provided to those who wanted to watch the entire event. Now, visitors are able to watch all four nights of the debate, including the question and answer portions, directly through the church's web site. The debate is separated into 30-minute segments to allow for optimal streaming quality and speed.
In the debate, Paul Mac Deaver of the Church of Christ affirms that “The Scriptures teach that baptism in water is for (in order to) the remission of one’s past sins.” David A. Hoffman of the First Baptist Church affirms that “The Scriptures teach that a sinner becomes a born again believer (i.e. a Christian, or saved) by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone without any further acts of obedience.” The Deaver-Hoffman Debate, like hundreds of other regular sermons and organized debates, is available in the Sermons PodCast section of the site by clicking the "Sermons" button in the church's navigation menus.

New Web Design
The Schaumburg Church of Christ web site has been completely redesigned. Created with Flash menus and Cascading Style Sheets, the site should be much more pleasant to view and easier to navigate. Initially, there may be some hiccups along the way--especially for those using older browsers like Internet Explorer 6 or mobile browsers such as iPhone users. Eventually, there will be work-arounds uploaded to solve these and other known issues. In the mean time, feel free to contact the webmaster via the contact form and report any problems that you experience. go there now »

Recommended Browsers
Quite a few new features have been added to the Schaumburg Church of Christ web site. Some of them require that have a fairly recent browser with Flash enabled in order to properly view and navigate the site. Safari or Firefox with a screen resolution of at least 1,000 pixels across is recommended for best viewing. An error with Internet Explorer prior to version 7 will cause a number of the images to have off-colored backgrounds. Most importantly, the navigational menu at the top of the page will not currently work with any browser that does not support Flash. In the mean time, you can use the buttons in the footer until a fix is uploaded. If you have any problems, feel free to contact the webmaster via the contact form. go there now »
